Frequently Asked Questions
Masks must be worn by clients and the massage therapist at all times while in the building and during the appointment. We do not have masks available, plan to bring your own.
What are we doing to ensure the safety of our clients?
At the Sunstone and East Side Wellness office we do our best to disinfect and minimize contact with others. Clients are now suggested to wait in their car and enter the building 5 minutes before their appointment, to avoid sitting in the waiting room around others. Masks are mandatory for everyone, please put on a mask before entering the building. Bathroom and commonly touched surfaces are disinfected before every appointment. We suggest you bring your own water bottle but do still provide water in a glass if needed. Maximum 3 clients in a day with the average being more 1-2 clients in a day. Extra time in between clients to air out the room with the window and UV HEPA air purifier, that remains on at all times. As always a clean set of linens and disinfecting of the treatment room before each appointment. Hand sanitizer is provided at the entry and treatment room. Everyone is asked to sign a COVID-19 informed-treatment consent form before receiving treatment during the pandemic.
What if I am pregnant? Do you offer pre-natal/pregnancy massage?
No, currently we do not offer pregnancy massage. If you are more than 3 months pregnant we suggest you research to find a more experienced Licensed Massage Therapist, you will find the information in their bio section of their business website.
Are you located in a handicap accessible building?
No, sadly we are not located in an office that is handicap accessible. There is a set of stairs to enter to building.
Do you offer home-calls?
No, we do not offer home-calls or any out of office massage.
Best way to set up an appointment or get a hold of my therapist?
Schedule online through our website (Book Now) or email directly at sunstonetherapeutics@gmail.com
As a new client you do not have to contact us first unless you have questions or concerns.
As a small business and Sunstone not being your therapist's only job, it can be difficult to reply to voicemails in a timely manner. Text messages are acceptable.
Where will my massage session take place?
Your massage session will take place in a warm private room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a massage table especially designed for your comfort, under a clean blanket and sheets.
What should I do to prepare for my massage?
It is best to come to your appointment hydrated. Drink plenty of water once waking up and throughout the day (before and after a massage). Do not come on a full stomach but be sure to have a small meal or snack before. We do not recommend having caffeine or taking strong pain medication before your session. Use the bathroom before coming or once you arrive. No need to shave, body hair does not effect our ability to give a great massage nor do we judge any person for their body. Come with an idea of what your goal or intention is for this massage and try to fill out a health history form before coming in. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most Swedish massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort once the practitioner leaves the room. You will be properly draped during the entire session, private areas will be covered at all times. It is common for clients to either keep their underwear on or to be completely undressed under the blankets.
Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. All private areas will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times during the massage. Please report any discomfort you have during a massage. We respect you body privacy and level of comfort.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, shoulders, glutes/hips, upper chest/pecs scalp and face with your permission. Abdominal/stomach massage only by request. Be sure to tell your therapist any areas you would like to be avoided.
Are there different kinds of massage?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, stretching, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you. Be sure to read through our services page to see what types of massage we offer.
What should I do during the massage session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. Try to breathe deeply to help yourself relax and receive the full benefits of massage. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask. Report any discomfort or pain to your therapist.
What are the benefits of massage?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
