Frequently Asked Questions
What happened to the Relaxation Massage and Neck Relief option?
I sent out an email this past summer about my service menu and fee change. If you would like a swedish relaxation massage or neck massage, schedule a therapeutic massage. I have combined the two, my massage sessions are always tailored to your needs. Now that I no longer take deep tissue clients there is no need to separare the options. My massage style is relaxing when we are doing deeper targeted work or focusing on releasing stress. Price changes reflect the years of expirience and continuing education in massage and bodywork.
Are masks required?
Masks are not currently required, your therapist will wear one by request. It is your choice whether you would like to wear a mask during your session or not. Please let me know before your appointment if you would like me to wear a mask during your session. If you are feeling symptoms of sickness, please reschedule your massage. I will do the same out of respect for your health and others.
What is Myofascial Lymphatic Drainage Therapy?
This therapy uses gentle myofascial massage techniques help your Lymphatic system rid itself of toxins and excess fluid in the body. MLDT is used as a way to improve the function of the lymphatic system. The massage is applied gently in order to unblock any obstructed lymph vessels, and allow lymph flow to transport waste from the body freely. This service usually does not include any lotions, oils or creams. This is not incisional lymphatic drainage and I can not work on any open wounds. There are many contraindications for this therapy, consult your doctor if you have any medial issues that could be affected. This cannot be preformed on anyone with a fever or current infection. I cannot currently work on anyone who has had lymph nodes removed or received radiation therapy.
What if I am pregnant? Do you offer pre-natal or pregnancy massage?
No, currently I do not offer pregnancy massage. If you are more than 3 months pregnant I suggest you research to find a Licensed Massage Therapist who has more experience with prenatal massage and offers this service.
Do you offer any discount?
No, I currently do not offer any discounts on massage services or packages. As a single, small business owner that is not sustainable for me. Thank you for understanding.
Are you located in a wheelchair accessible building?
No, sadly we are not located in an office that is wheelchair accessible. There's a set of stairs to enter to building, the bathroom with also quite small.
Do you offer house-calls?
No, I do not offer house-calls or any out of office massage.
What should I do to prepare for my massage?
It is best to come to your appointment hydrated and clean. Drink plenty of water once waking up and throughout the day (before and after a massage). Do not come on a full stomach but be sure to have a small meal or snack before. We do not recommend having caffeine or taking pain medication before your session. Use the bathroom before coming or once you arrive. No need to shave, but please do shower, body hair does not effect our ability to give a great massage nor do we judge any person for their body. Come with an idea of what your goal or intention is for this massage and try to fill out a health history form before coming in. Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most Swedish massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; covered by a blanket and sheet. It is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort once the practitioner leaves the room. You will be properly draped during the entire session, private areas will be covered at all times. It is common for clients to either keep their underwear on or to be completely undressed under the blankets. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. Please report any discomfort you have during a massage. I respect your body privacy and level of comfort.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, shoulders, glutes/hips, upper chest/pecs scalp and face with your permission. Abdominal/stomach massage would be included in lymphatic or psoas work. Be sure to tell your therapist any areas you would like avoided.
What should I do during the massage session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. Try to breathe deeply to help yourself relax and receive the full benefits of massage. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask. Report any discomfort or pain to your therapist.
What are the benefits of massage?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
